Grey Skies over Teesside Steel - Coastal Images

An image from the archive. It was taken just before the steel plant was mothballed by TATA Steel. Perhaps the beginning of the end. It remained so for a few years, and then reopened by SSI. There was a feeling that the iron and steel industry on Teesside could live on. Sadly this was short lived, and the plant has once again closed. This time it would seem there will be no going back.
The South Gare fishermens' huts in the foreground are still a hive of activity with the owners of the boats in Paddy's Hole. Heartening to see this community survive despite all that goes on around it.
